The a16z Frontier rebrand, explained
In his post, Dixon describes frontier startups as "companies building new technologies and creating markets that may take years to develop." He writes: "To reflect this, we’re renaming a16z Crypto to a16z Frontier." He adds that the fund will keep investing in crypto and related ventures.
Dixon writes that he will lead the fund with the firm's founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz and general partners Eddy Lazzarin and Guy Wuollet. The post names no design studio.
The old logo was the wordmark a16zcrypto, set as one word in dark, geometric lowercase letters. The new logo keeps the same a16z letters and replaces crypto with frontier, again as one word, in a dark warm grey.
In short: In 2026 a16z Crypto became a16z Frontier and swapped crypto for frontier in its one-word wordmark.
