The Arizona Coyotes rebrand, explained
The Kachina coyote, a stylised multicolour figure holding a stick, was the team's original Phoenix logo before a red howling coyote head took over as primary.
On 20 September 2021 the team announced a rebrand "focused on impact, inclusivity and innovation", with the full-body Kachina as the primary logo and the Kachina mask as the secondary. ESPN reported that the black Kachina jersey stayed the home uniform and a white Kachina became the road uniform, while the red coyote-head jersey was kept for a few games. Reuters reported the move as meant to spur inclusivity.
In short: The 1996 coyote took the primary spot back.
