The New England Revolution rebrand, explained
The Revolution unveiled the crest on 4 November 2021, to take over as the primary logo before the 2022 season. The club said it was the result of several years' work, including focus groups run by an independent third party.
The club said fans were clear they did not want the New England Revolution name changed, so the design leans on the region's history as the birthplace of the American Revolution. The R's red strikethrough is meant to evoke the defiant spirit of the era.
The change came as the Revolution won the 2021 Supporters' Shield with a league record points total.
In short: Out with the flag.
