The ZEE5 rebrand, explained

ZEE5, the streaming service of Zee Entertainment Enterprises, announced a new brand identity and strategic repositioning in June 2025. Afaqs reported that the relaunch combined a vibrant new logo, a corporate brand film, an updated product experience and new language specific subscription plans, all framed by the promise Apni Bhasha, Apni Kahaniyan, translated as multiple languages, infinite stories.

The rationale is about where growth now lives. Amit Goenka, president of digital businesses and platforms, told Variety that language had been at the heart of ZEE5 when it launched in 2018, but the market pushed it toward national Hindi content. Now that smaller tier two and tier three cities were adopting streaming, he said, it was the right time to return to that original positioning. In the announcement covered by afaqs, he called the new identity a pivotal step toward becoming a deeply personalised, language first platform that mirrors the diversity of Indian audiences.

Marketing chief Kartik Mahadev said the campaign was rooted in the idea that language is belonging, and that a story in your own language feels lived in rather than just watched. Afaqs reported a campaign across seven languages aimed at large and small towns and global audiences. The pricing made the point concrete: language plans from 120 rupees a month, a Hindi pack with Punjabi and Bhojpuri content at 220, and an all access pack at 320. Afaqs reported a target of more than 130 new titles in FY26, while Variety quoted plans for over 120, roughly double the FY25 slate.

Variety added that the interface now adapts by location, so a new user in Chennai would see Tamil by default, and that internationally the service tailors its catalogue to diaspora audiences, from Malayalam in the Middle East to Punjabi in Canada.

This is a strategy with a logo attached, and the strategy is the interesting part. Unbundling by language and pricing down is a credible way to compete in a crowded Indian market. The identity itself is mostly a vehicle for the line, and Apni Bhasha, Apni Kahaniyan is genuinely good: specific, warm and impossible for a global rival to say with the same conviction. The test is whether the product delivers the local depth the slogan promises across every language it names.

In short: Your language, your stories, your price tier.
