The Miami Marlins rebrand, explained

The Marlins announced the new logos and colours on 15 November 2018, about a year after the group led by Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter bought the club. The palette became Caliente Red, Miami Blue, Midnight Black and Slate Grey, which the team tied to the cultural flags flown across South Florida's neighbourhoods.

The club said the script M and curved, tapered serif lettering draw on typography common in Latin American culture, and nod to the 1950s Miami Marlins and Havana Sugar Kings. The new primary shows a more athletic marlin with an upward body position.

MLB.com reported that the club considered bringing back the teal of its early years but chose a new image. Jeter said the team wanted to move forward rather than look back.

In short: Black, red and Miami blue.
