The Memphis Grizzlies rebrand, explained

The team unveiled the refresh on 2 August 2018 at FedExForum, along with three Nike uniforms, two new courts and FedEx as its first jersey sponsor. The team called it the newest evolution of its brand since 2004.

In the bear icon, the release says the lightest "smoke" blue in the nose and mouth gave way to Beale Street Blue, "enhancing the ferocity of the Grizzlies Gold in the Bear's eyes", and a steel grey outline was added. SportsLogos.Net noted that the changes were relatively minor and that the smoke blue left the palette entirely.

Elsewhere in the set, the ClawBall secondary logo was rotated so its three middle claws form an M for Memphis, and the "Grizzlies" wordmark was redrawn straight instead of arched.

In short: The bear got a grey outline.
