The CVS Health rebrand, explained

According to the company's release, CVS Health brought together the retail business, which kept the name CVS/pharmacy, the pharmacy benefit manager CVS/caremark, the walk-in clinics CVS/minuteclinic and the specialty pharmacy business CVS/specialty. At the time it counted 7,700 retail pharmacies, 900 walk-in medical clinics and nearly 65 million plan members.

President and CEO Larry J. Merlo said: "For our patients and customers, health is everything and CVS Health is changing the way health care is delivered to increase access, lower costs and improve quality." On the same day the company ended the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products at CVS/pharmacy, nearly a month ahead of its earlier October 1 target.

No design studio is named in the official release.

The old logo was a red two-line lockup: a heavy CVS in bold sans serif capitals sat above the word Caremark in flared capitals, with a small Rx sign built into the K. The new logo puts everything on one line, starting with a red heart, followed by a bold red CVS and the word Health in a lighter dark charcoal sans serif.

In short: In 2014 CVS Caremark became CVS Health and swapped its two-line red lockup for a heart, a red CVS and a charcoal Health.
