The Corebridge Financial rebrand, explained

AIG made the announcement on Business Wire on 28 March 2022, the same day the business filed for its initial public offering. Reuters, via Carrier Management, reported that the unit would be rebranded as Corebridge Financial when it went public, and that AIG planned to keep a majority stake after the offering. The listing on the New York Stock Exchange followed in September 2022.

The name leans on the idea of a bridge to retirement. Kevin Hogan, then chief executive of AIG Life & Retirement, explained the change in a media statement: "Our team of committed colleagues work hard every day to find solutions that allow people to take action and build a secure bridge to their financial futures."

Visually, the logo is a quiet wordmark with one lively detail. Corebridge is set in lowercase in a deep indigo sans serif, financial sits smaller underneath, and a scatter of purple dots climbs up and to the right from the final e, a simple picture of growth that also keeps the mark recognisable at small sizes.

The rename slowly became visible in the real world. In August 2024 the Houston Chronicle reported that the AIG sign was coming off America Tower at 2929 Allen Parkway in Houston, where Corebridge is based, and that a Corebridge sign was going up in its place. It is a typical arc for a spin-off brand: two years from press release to skyline.

In short: A bridge to retirement, told with a lowercase name and a cluster of rising dots.
