The Remedy Entertainment rebrand, explained

In April 2023 Remedy Entertainment revealed a new logo and refreshed visual identity. The Finnish studio's announcement said it had not updated its logo in more than 20 years, and that the process began a few years earlier as Remedy moved from making one game at a time to several simultaneously and opened a second location in Stockholm.

The old mark carried a specific memory. Remedy explained that the bullet in the letter R represented the era of Max Payne, but that the studio, which got its start in 1995, is now much bigger than a single game, with a whole portfolio of titles. The goal was more consistency and a better expression of what Remedy is today.

Windows Central covered the reveal alongside a reassurance that Alan Wake 2 was still due out in 2023, a reminder that for most players a studio logo matters mainly as the thing before the game starts.

Game Rant added the authorship and an interpretation. The old R had a bullet in its centre, and since Max Payne the studio had released Alan Wake, Quantum Break and Control, games that lean into dreams and unexplained phenomena. The outlet read the new mark as an R refracted by a mirror, a fitting sign for a studio known for the surreal, and framed the change as Max Payne's loss and Control's gain.

Losing the bullet is the right call, if a sentimental one. A logo tied to one franchise suits a studio defined by that franchise, and Remedy now juggles several games at once. The studio itself admitted the change was emotional.

Remedy's own post called creating the new logo an emotional journey and noted how much artistic direction matters to the studio, not just in its games but in how it looks, not to mention its hoodies. Despite almost three decades in the industry, it said, it felt as if it were only getting started, with Alan Wake 2 due that year. A studio that admits its logo means a lot to fans, and handles it with care, earns the right to retire the Max Payne bullet.

What remains is a cleaner, more neutral mark. That suits a company that wants to be seen as a multi-project studio, though it inevitably gives up some of the character that made the old one memorable.

In short: The bullet is gone.
