The CD PROJEKT RED rebrand, explained
CD Projekt was founded in 1994 as a video game distributor focused on titles on CD-ROM, hence the name; it was then a first of its kind in Poland. In 2002 it set up a development studio and added the suffix Red, the company recalled. The studio, originally in Łódź before moving to Warsaw, went on to make The Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077.
In 2026 the parent company decided to take the studio's name. PC Gamer quoted a board resolution saying the new name would ensure full brand consistency and help the public link the company with its products. Its reporter joked that he would need a new mnemonic, but conceded it made sense: to most players, CD Projekt simply is CD Projekt Red.
A refreshed visual identity premiered at the company's business booth at gamescom in August 2026. The Polish design site Design Alley reported that the logo, which since 2014 has featured the Raróg, a demonic spirit of fire, sky and wind from Slavic mythology, had been modified rather than replaced. The two colours in the old symbol tended to blur together; the new one is a single colour, black or red, and the bird is simplified to read more clearly. The company said the mark had gained a more mature, confident and dynamic character, and that the wider identity centres on its signature red, simplified shapes and a sharper symbol. Design Alley noticed that the bird's eye is drawn differently in the versions for light and dark backgrounds, and wondered whether one mark could have served both.
The name change is the bigger news and the right one: Red is the brand people know.
PC Gamer quoted the company's resolution: in the Management Board's opinion, the new name would ensure full brand consistency and help the company be identified with its products on the global market. The writer grudgingly admitted it made sense. To the public, the company is a game studio with some other stuff attached, and most players care far more about Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4 than about corporate machinations. Naming the parent after the thing people love is the honest choice, even if it makes the business pages harder to read.
The logo fix is careful and overdue. One colour solves a real legibility problem, and the Raróg keeps a mythological edge no other studio owns. The double eye is a fussy detail that suggests the work is not quite finished.
In short: Everyone is Red now.
