The Cathay Pacific rebrand, explained

The Brushwing first appeared in 1994. Cathay's own logo history credits it to Landor Associates and describes a single stroke of a calligraphy brush set within a green panel. For twenty years that panel came with it.

A refinement in 2014, the same history says, removed the surrounding green box, giving the Brushwing greater prominence and a lighter, more contemporary feel. The airline's livery release dates the updated, streamlined Brushwing to October 2014. The wordmark beside it was redrawn in cleaner capitals. The official after file is white, for the dark site header, so the light-mode view shows an adapted copy with dark letters.

The refresh carried on into the aircraft. Unveiling the new livery on a Boeing 777-300ER, chief executive Ivan Chu said: "Today represents the beginning of a new era for Cathay Pacific." He called it a continuation of the work begun the year before. In 2023 the airline group became simply Cathay, with the Brushwing kept at its heart. No official source checked names the agency behind the 2014 update.

In short: The brush stroke leaves the box it lived in for twenty years.
