The A1 Telekom Austria Group rebrand, explained

In September 2017 the group said it would bring the A1 brand to all its markets step by step, according to local conditions. heise online listed the brands to be replaced: Mobiltel in Bulgaria, Vipnet in Croatia, one.Vip in Macedonia, Vip mobile in Serbia and velcom in Belarus. Si.mobil in Slovenia had already become A1 in April 2017.

On 14 November 2017 the group itself became A1 Telekom Austria Group, Total Telecom reported. Horizont noted that the legal entity stayed Telekom Austria AG. heise traced A1 back to 1996, when it was first used for Austria's first GSM network.

The group's 2017 annual report said the switch triggered the write-down of local brand values worth around 350 million euros at the end of 2016, with most of the impact falling in 2017 and early 2018.

In short: One brand for every market.
