## The rebrand, explained

Workday, the HR, finance and planning software company, unveiled a refreshed identity in late 2024 around a new positioning: "Inspire a brighter workday for all". PRINT reported in December 2024 that the aim was to bring warmth and humanity to enterprise software while positioning the company for an AI-driven era with people at its core.

The design studio's creative director said the work took a year and was about capturing the heart of Workday's culture, collaborating across brand and digital so the result felt authentic to HR and finance audiences.

Branding in Asia, which also covered the launch, described personability as Workday's competitive advantage: a rigorous provider of financial, HR and planning software that manages people and money with surprising soul. The planned Workday Sans is meant to come in a range of weights and cuts for legibility across all communications, and elements in motion rise and unfold to suggest new beginnings and transparency. The pitch that making better work means making work better is a neat line, though it is the kind every HR vendor would happily sign.

The logo evolves Workday's long-standing "Horizon" concept, a nod to optimism and new beginnings, with custom letterforms meant to be confident and approachable. A shorthand called The Dub combines the leading 'W' with a compressed horizon for tighter placements. A logo font is drawn from the wordmark, with a custom Workday Sans in development for wider use. The palette pairs energizing warm yellows with calmer blues that evoke reflection and after-hours focus, plus brighter secondary tones and gradients; arcs and upward movement trace the passage of the working day. Photography favors natural light and depth of field, with forward gestures meant to suggest progress, and motion is designed to feel like time flowing.

PRINT's writer was won over, calling it proof that B2B design can connect on a personal level.

The daylight system is the clever bit: a palette that moves from morning to evening is a genuinely ownable idea for a company named after the working day. The Dub is a useful, if slightly awkward, name for a practical device. Optimism is now every enterprise brand's default, but Workday at least had a horizon to earn it.

In short: Morning to evening.
