## The rebrand, explained

Vauxhall announced the new Griffin on 30 September 2026 through Stellantis Media, calling it the latest evolution of one of the car industry's most recognisable logos. The release describes a more streamlined and contemporary emblem with a more angular Griffin, and it confirms that the flag has been removed for the first time. The logo was due to debut on the STX Concept, an estate car study shown at the Paris Motor Show, and Vauxhall says it will appear on the next all-new production model in 2027.

The company ties the change to its cars. The simpler shape is meant to look sharper when lit up on the Vizor grille, which has carried an illuminated logo since the Grandland in 2024. Mark Adams, Vauxhall's design vice-president, said the Griffin emblem is instantly recognisable, with Vauxhalls seen on almost every street in Britain, and that the aim was to keep its essential elements while streamlining it for electrified vehicles. The new Griffin also anchors a new retailer corporate identity and arrived with a brand campaign called Brit's What We Do.

The old roundel, introduced in 2019, showed the Griffin from the chest up, facing right, with a flag carrying a large V held in front of it. In the new version the flag and the V are gone. The bird has been redrawn with fewer, straighter cuts in the feathers and a sharper beak, and it now fills more of the circle. The navy colour used on Vauxhall's own site stays the same.

Creative Bloq noted that a flag has appeared in every version of the Griffin since 1915, making this the first to break with it, while Auto Express led on the missing V. Vauxhall itself traces the Griffin back to the coat of arms of Falkes de Bréauté in the 13th century, long before the company built its first car in 1903.

Removing the flag is a bigger change than the clean-up suggests, because the V was the only part of the old emblem that spelled out the name. What is left is a pure symbol that leans on the Griffin's outline alone. It will look good lit up on a grille, but it now asks a lot of a bird that many drivers would struggle to draw.

In short: The Griffin keeps its head and loses its flag.
