## The rebrand, explained

Solflare launched in 2021 as a wallet on the Solana blockchain, with security as its pitch. Crypto had a reputation as a lawless land of jargon and mysterious funds, and Solflare wanted to win newcomers who might otherwise choose better-known rivals. London branding agency Ragged Edge led a rebrand, reported by Creative Review, Creative Bloq and Design Compass in 2025.

The platform became a "Stronghold of the Free", inspired by the trading idea of holding strong through market turbulence. Ragged Edge strategy director Christy Madden said the word stronghold speaks to a community bound by shared belief. Associate creative director Jessica Bong-Woon said the challenge was to welcome crypto newcomers while still feeling bold enough for hardcore fans.

Rather than the usual crypto aesthetic, the identity goes back to the codes of trustworthy finance. The logotype draws on the lettering of early bank charters, a gothic style that lends authority. Illustrations reinterpret classic money engraving for screens, with crowns, castles, shields and locks, and a vibrant yellow keeps it from feeling austere. The tone of voice was rewritten to be calm and assertive; a senior creative director at the agency described it as blending the wisdom of classical music with the lyricism of modern rap. A manifesto came with it.

Creative Bloq called the identity effortlessly slick and said the best rebrands are made to make a statement.

It is a good inversion. Crypto brands usually perform the future; Solflare performs the past, and borrows the trust old banks spent centuries building. The irony of a decentralized wallet dressing as a charter bank is obvious, but on a category this short of credibility, blackletter and yellow is memorable and does not look like anyone else.

In short: Crypto dressed as an old bank.
