## The rebrand, explained

Nextdoor launched in the US in 2011 and in the UK in 2016, and grew to more than 100 million verified neighbors. Design Week noted it had lost its way, known above all for sending too many emails, few of them relevant. On Jul 15, 2025, it released what it called the most consequential redesign of its product to date, with a refreshed brand identity. Co-founder and CEO Nirav Tolia called it a refounding moment.

The product now centers on real-time Alerts, local News from more than 3,500 vetted publishers and an AI recommendations feature. That feature draws on 14 years of neighborhood conversations, Nextdoor says. Nextdoor's chief design officer told Design Week that the company had historically had a terrible Net Promoter Score. He said the previous identity had tried to signal kindness when the product needed to build utility first. Design Week dated that identity to 2021 and the IPO, but Nextdoor's own blog and Campaign US place the waving "n" in September 2020. So it went back to the studs. Its manifesto says people scroll by the entire world each day and miss the neighborhood stroll steps away.

The house logo returns with what he called some loving renovations. Multi-house versions were tried, but a single home won as the unit neighborhoods are built from, and it also works as a frame, container or die-cut. Everything is set in one typeface, Saans from the Dutch foundry Displaay, with no secondary fonts. Lime green gives way to a darker, more mature green called Lawn, with accents named Plaster and Dusk, plus neighborhood palettes such as Blush, Vista and Orange Dust that tint each user's app by location. Photography of real people replaces illustration, and a floating navigation bar pares back wayfinding.

Design Week saw a solidity in the new designs, underpinned by a willingness to be useful rather than loud. Chief design officer Georg Petschnigg said: "You're not going to come to Nextdoor because of the logo. You're going to come because it does something valuable in your neighbourhood."

Adweek reported that Nextdoor was making its most substantial product change to date, with three updates. They were licensed content from third-party publishers in the feed, a dedicated interface for real-time emergency alerts, and AI-powered local recommendations. Adweek counted 15 years of proprietary user data behind the recommendations.

Petschnigg named the old Net Promoter Score problem in public. The identity uses one graphic family: Saans, no secondary fonts, and neighborhood palettes that tint each user's app by location. That last point is our observation: Saans and a muted green could belong to any app, but location-tinted palettes are a local idea.

In short: Back to the house.
