## The rebrand, explained

The Timberwolves revealed the logo on 11 April 2017 at halftime of their final home game, against Oklahoma City, for use from the 2017-18 season. The team called it the first in a series of announcements, with new uniforms and a new court to follow that summer.

The team describes the mark as "an evolution of past logos" built from civic pride, the team and the wolf totem. The wolf is shown howling, which the team calls "the glue that keeps wolf packs together", and the North Star stands for Minnesota and for "following true north as a team."

The colours keep the franchise's blues and greens in new shades: midnight blue, aurora green, lake blue, moonlight grey and frost white. The release says the logo was made over 12 months by team ownership, executives, the NBA and Rodney Richardson of RARE Design, whose designer said the palette was drawn from the Northern Lights and the "depths and reflections of a midnight forest."

In short: The snarl became a howl.
