## The rebrand, explained

The refreshed identity was launched on 9 September 2011 by Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak at a staff Aidilfitri celebration at Menara Maybank. Chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor said the previous brand had been in place since 1993, and tied the change to the bank's mission to humanise financial services across Asia.

"It became very clear that the stakeholders want the three key elements of our identity to remain, that is the name Maybank, the Yellow colour and the Tiger head symbol," said President and CEO Dato' Sri Abdul Wahid Omar. The release describes a more noble, majestic rendition of the tiger, and a contemporary, friendly typeface from the Kievet family, chosen for its clean, crisp letterforms.

Maybank said the new identity would be rolled out gradually across the region, with completion expected within 12 months. No design agency is named in the release, so none is credited here. The release is cited from a Wayback capture of maybank.com.

In short: Same tiger, same yellow, a softer voice.
