## The rebrand, explained

lifecell, Ukraine's third largest mobile operator, changed owners in September 2024. Interfax-Ukraine reported that Turkcell sold it to the DVL group, short for Datagroup-Volia-lifecell, whose main shareholder is NJJ, the French telecom holding company led by Xavier Niel. NJJ had also bought national fixed internet provider Datagroup-Volia, and the assets were combined. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, Mediasat reported, lifecell served 9.5 million subscribers, and the combined group about 11 million customers across consumer, business and government segments with more than 5,000 staff.

In June 2025 the operator updated its logo. From now on, the company said in the statement quoted by Interfax, the logo keeps only the word lifecell, without the round element with antenna horns that embodied mobile communication specifically. Mediasat, told of the change by the company's press office, described the same: the round symbol is gone and the wordmark stands alone. The new design would roll out gradually across the website, mobile app, shops and advertising, without affecting service.

The explanation is about scope. lifecell called it a small but symbolic change reflecting a new stage in its development: thanks to the group, customers could already get a wider range of services, including fixed home internet and television. Interfax noted that earlier in 2025 the Volia TV platform had been renamed lifecell TV, and DVL's chief technology officer Serhiy Tereshchuk said mobile, home internet and TV could now be had in one tariff. The company stressed that the lifecell name, its values, its focus on innovation and its care for customers remained unchanged.

Removing a symbol that literally meant mobile is the right move for an operator that now sells broadband and TV, and for a brand that came from Turkcell, it also quietly removes a visual link to the former owner. The cost is distinctiveness: a lowercase wordmark on its own is easy to overlook in a crowded market, and the antenna horns were the most memorable thing about the logo. As a first step in a group integration, it is sensible and cheap. Whether lifecell becomes the master brand for the whole DVL group will matter far more than this edit.

In short: The antennas come off.
