## The rebrand, explained

GoFundMe grew up as the peer-to-peer fundraising site. After acquiring the nonprofit platform Classy, now GoFundMe Pro, and adding tools such as Giving Funds, Profiles and Intelligent Ask Amounts, its brand still reflected those early roots. The challenge, as Creative Boom put it, was to express the growth without losing the clarity and emotional immediacy that made the brand recognizable.

The studio is Koto, credited by both Creative Boom and Branding in Asia, and the idea is Help Adds Up: individual acts of generosity combining into collective momentum. Its center is the Progress Circle, based on the fundraising progress indicator that has been part of GoFundMe since day one. Broken into segments, it stands for fundraisers, donors and nonprofits moving forward bit by bit, and it can scale, frame, isolate and move across applications, including product design.

The logo was subtly refined to reveal a progress circle that was there all along in its ray, with bolder curves. GoFundMe Pro is built from the same wordmark, giving a clearer architecture between consumer and nonprofit offers. Green stays central, expanded into a broader spectrum with a duotone approach for legibility and accessibility. A custom typeface, GoFundMe Sans, echoes the circle's forms. Art direction follows humanity, community and optimism, and the tone of voice separates GoFundMe as a Helpful Guide from GoFundMe Pro as a Helpful Partner.

Koto creative director Caroline Fox said relying on a single idea to hold an entire ecosystem is one of the hardest challenges in brand design. Dave Carlson, head of brand and creative at GoFundMe, framed it as a foundation that can keep evolving.

This is equity used well. Turning the most familiar piece of the interface into the brand's central device is both obvious and smart, and Creative Boom's verdict holds: you do not have to bin everything to modernize.

In short: A progress bar promoted to brand idea, without throwing away what worked.
