## The rebrand, explained

In the release, chairman and CEO Gérard Mestrallet described the new name as easy and powerful, one that evokes energy for everyone and in all cultures. The group was then present in 70 countries.

The release says: "The new brand name adopts the rising sun as its logo, symbolizing a new day in the world of energy." The launch was backed by an advertising campaign on TV, in print, online and on social media in France and Europe, starting with a 90-second prime-time spot on Sunday, April 26 on 13 channels. The campaign was made by Publicis Conseil. The release names no studio for the logo itself.

The old logo, as printed on the cover of the 2014 Registration Document, was the name GDF Suez in rounded letters with the U drawn as a V, above a long curved underline. The new logo sets the name Engie in rounded blue lowercase letters under a wide, thin arc that stands for the rising sun.

In short: In 2015 GDF Suez became Engie and swapped its underlined wordmark for a blue wordmark under a rising sun arc.
