## The rebrand, explained

Condor emerged from the 2019 collapse of its owner Thomas Cook as an independent airline, and in 2022 it unveiled an identity to match. Its announcement put the idea simply: Condor is vacation, and vacation is stripes. The new liveries, inspired by parasols, bath towels and beach chairs, come in five colours.

CNN explained what each stands for, according to the airline: blue for the sea, yellow for sunshine, red for passion, green for island and a beige-gold stripe for a sandy beach. Together they are meant to represent the diversity of guests, staff and destinations. Chief executive Ralf Teckentrup called the stripes the airline's new trademark, alongside a figurative mark that stands for its origin. The condor in a circle remains, and the lead colours of the identity are yellow and blue, with grey for contrast.

The identity was created under the direction of Remo Masala, owner of Berlin agency Vision Alphabet, whose stated aim was to give Condor visual independence rooted in its brand essence: the invention of the holiday flight, and the stripes of summer, joy and freedom. CNN noted that the stripes extend well beyond the fuselage, to social media avatars, boarding passes and blankets. AeroTime reported the first application, green stripes on a white background on an Airbus A330-900 due to enter service in autumn 2022, with the logo on the upper tail.

Key Aero spoke to Masala about the mixed reaction. Most liveries, it argued, are vast expanses of white with a few decals, wasting the billboard an aircraft represents.

That is exactly why Condor's stripes work. They are cheerful, instantly legible from a distance and impossible to confuse with a business airline. It is a holiday airline that finally looks like one.
