## The rebrand, explained

Calendly's previous identity, about five years old, had a symbol meant to be a C that design Twitter quickly read as a toilet bowl seen from above, Creative Bloq recalled. The official reason for replacing it was different: the product had grown well beyond scheduling links into a range of AI-powered productivity tools.

Calendly's own announcement describes that expansion. Callie, an AI assistant, books meetings when copied into an email thread and helps prepare for calls using schedules, contact profiles and past notes. Notetaker records and transcribes Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams meetings. Both sit on new Standard Plus and Teams Plus plans. Fast Company and Creative Bloq both noted a second problem: AI also makes it easier for people to vibe-code their own productivity tools, so the brand had to show it beats the DIY option.

The founder's launch letter supplies the backstory. Calendly started in 2013 out of personal frustration with the time a salesperson spent manually scheduling meetings, grew from a single booking link into a platform serving more than 50 million users, and now wants to take the work out of everything surrounding meetings: preparation, notes, follow-up and invoicing.

Smith & Diction, which unveiled the work in August 2026, built it around "making space", both on the calendar and in the user's day. It wanted it to feel like a breath of fresh air, calm and confident, like the original simple blue link. After many explorations of figurative marks, the team concluded anything beside the name begged the question of why it was not a calendar, and returned to a C. It now carries a single asymmetrical ripple, standing for how one meeting link can change a business. The previous wordmark was judged too cutesy, so it gained structure, with the C flowing into the A and a tilted E running into the N to suggest invisible connection. Subbrand icons for scheduling, payments and Callie use softened "gloop" joins inside the same squircle. Neons gave way to soft, fading hues, plus some AI-generated imagery.

The ripple fixes the toilet problem and the connected letters are a genuinely nice detail. But soft gradients and airy pastels are now what every AI productivity tool looks like, which is an odd way to argue you are better than the alternatives.

In short: Flushed neon, one ripple.
