## The rebrand, explained

Bancomat presented its new identity in Milan on 28 November 2024. Engage's Teresa Nappi reported that the relaunch followed a 75 million euro capital increase completed in June 2024 with investment from FSI, and that chief executive Fabrizio Burlando described the company as a fintech with 40 years of history. The rebranding, by Landor, simplified the brand architecture: PagoBancomat and Bpay were absorbed under the single Bancomat name.

The symbol has a long story. ADC Group reported that the first Bancomat mark, from 1983, was inspired by a seagull to evoke the freedom to withdraw cash outside bank hours, while also recalling a B. Because recognisability and freedom remain central, Landor freed the symbol from its old rhombus cage and added a marked sense of dynamism by redrawing and tilting it. The wordmark was also made more dynamic, with slight spherical touches to connect with the photography style. The system adds an exclusive typeface, a palette inspired by the colours of Italian landscapes, and photography with exaggerated perspective expressing a bird's view from above and all around.

The Brand Identity, writing in January 2025, named the original designer, Pier Paolo Cornieti, and quoted creative director Alessio Galdi saying the B was freed from the geometric grid where it once lived and redesigned for a digital universe. The seagull B underpins a concept called hyper-vision, a bird's eye view expressed in wide fields of view. Engage added that, according to a business case presented by Landor's Antonio Marazza, concentrating on the single brand would raise its contribution to business by 16 percent and its overall value by 48 percent.

This is the right kind of heritage work. The 1983 seagull is a genuinely clever mark, a bird and a letter at once, and cutting it out of its box lets it do what it was always meant to do. Tilting it gives motion without inventing a new symbol. The weaker parts are the supporting ideas. Hyper-vision is agency vocabulary stretched to cover a photography style, and colours inspired by Italian landscapes could describe almost any Italian palette. A projected 48 percent rise in brand value is a pitch number, not a result.

In short: The seagull leaves its cage.
